In an editorial, the San Diego Union-Tribune urged the San Diego City Council to move forward now with the new Central Library project. The editorial pointed out that funding is now in place to move forward with the much-needed project.
"Even a short delay at this late stage could doom the new library, which promises to produce jobs, help revitalize downtown, create a civic statement which we as a city can be proud of, and give 300 students in a specialized charter school unique educational opportunities," said the editorial.
The piece noted the recognized need for a new Central Library and the special need to move forward with a public project like this now. The "new central library can spur civic pride and instill a stronger sense of community in San Diego."
