Now is an exciting time to volunteer with the San Diego Public Library Foundation!
In a down economy, public libraries are more important than ever. The American Library Association (ALA) reports that during the current recession, national library card registration has reached an historic high and public libraries nationwide are reporting a surge in users. An outstanding public library system is the hallmark of any great city; the San Diego public library system was recognized by the ALA in recent years as the nation’s best for its family literacy program. With major developments unfolding on several fronts, including dramatic progress toward the construction of a new downtown Central Library, and upcoming One Book, One San Diego events taking place throughout the City, the San Diego Public Library Foundation announces new openings for Professional Volunteers or in the area of Event Photography.
Volunteer Activities
Library Foundation photographer volunteers are asked to attend major Foundation and Library events, such as the kick-off of the One Book, One San Diego program in February 2010, as well as related programs taking place throughout the year. These include book discussions, film nights, children’s activities and author events. A talented volunteer photographer is needed to help document these events for donor relations and marketing purposes including the Library Foundation website. Each event requires a commitment of no more than a few hours.
All photos will be captioned and credited as appropriate. Thank you for supporting San Diego libraries! Please visit www.supportmylibrary.org for more information regarding the San Diego Public Library Foundation or contact office@supportmylibrary.org to sign up as a volunteer.
