Mayor's veto focused on Council votes on customer service centers
Late Wednesday December 3, Mayor Jerry Sanders vetoed the City Council's budget resolution to save six city customer service centers (and three city painters). The Mayor's veto was not directed at the Council's November 24 vote to keep open seven libraries Sanders had recommended for closure but could impact the entire package of mid-year budget alterations previously approved by the Council.
Sanders said he vetoed the Council action because the Council's vote to restore the center violates the City charter because the council's budget ordinance didn't match its budget resolution.
The City Council will meet Friday December 5 to reconsider the package of budget cuts and Mayor's veto and are expected to override the Mayor's veto.
