More than 7,000 children and parents joined the Library for a fun day celebrating childhood literacy. The 2nd annual Children's Book Festival--a free event--was May 9, 2009 and featured presentations from some of the nation's top authors and illustrators and included games, music and performances for children of all ages.The 2009 Festival Honorary Chair was San Diego's First Lady Rana Sampson.

With the uncertainty of proposed Library budget cuts the San Diego Public Library has decided to postpone the Festival for 2010. The Library and Foundation will focus all our staff and financial resources in the next year on delivering high quality core services, collections and programs to the community and will reevaluate hosting it for 2011.
