Capital Projects
21st Century Plan. In 2002, the Mayor and City Council approved an ambitious Library Improvement Program--the 21st Century Plan. The plan called for the construction of a new Central Library and 24 branch libraries (12 new and 12 expanded). With the support of public and private partners, the Library has opened seven new or expanded branch libraries since 2002 and begun construction on another.
Recently Completed. The Logan Heights Branch Library opened in December 2009. The new 25,000 square foot library replaces a 3,967 square foot library that was built in 1927.
Naming opportunities exist for many key and visible areas at many branch libraries, including at the new Logan Heights Branch Library. Areas at this branch available for naming opportunities include the children's story area, community meeting room and the Centro Cultural, an architecturally dramatic public space for art exhibits, student projects and cultural programs.
For more details on this new facility, VISIT HERE. For more information on these opportunities, call (619) 238-6638 or email here.
21st Century Plan Libraries to be Built. These remaining libraries in the 21st Century plan are awaiting funding to move forward with construction. Multiple naming opportunities exist for these planned branches. Donors interested in gifts to support these library projects can contact Jay Hill at (619) 236-5861 or by e-mail.
