A career path found at the Library
Aide Mata first visited the Library while in high school to avoid a difficult home life. “The Library became my second home and my escape,” Aide said.
Aide had an interest in drawing and met Librarian Gigi Terzian who encouraged her to use the Library’s multimedia IDEA Lab which features advanced design tools. Aide took free classes in graphics, animation, and video and sound production.
She excelled and gained confidence. Shy and withdrawn at first, Aide was encouraged to take on leadership roles at the Library. “People are here to help you. They know you and support you.”
Aide began tutoring other teens on the use of the IDEA Lab’s design tools. “I came out of my shell,” Aide said. With this new-found confidence, Aide currently is pursuing a degree in design at City College.
