Advocate & Volunteer
Library supporters are a dedicated and vocal group who give their time to support their library and lend their voices to let elected officials and others know the key role libraries play in communities throughout San Diego.
In recent years, members of the Friends Advocacy Network have successfully opposed proposed library branch closures and advocated for the return of library hours, budgets and staff. Members of the Friends Advocacy Network receive regular e-mail communications about library issues and help deliver the library’s message to elected officials, media, neighbors and community leaders.
Volunteers make a real difference, especially in our libraries. Last fiscal year, 3,090 volunteers donated more than 147,000 hours of their time to support our libraries, a commitment valued at more than $3.2 million!
If you are interested in volunteering for the San Diego Public Library Foundation, call Jerry Tomaszewicz at 619-238-6619 or email him with your name, contact information and areas of interest or expertise.
There are many ways to volunteer at the library. Dedicated volunteers from all ages, backgrounds, skill sets and phases of life assist library staff to extend library services and programs. Learn more.
